Peter J. Gillies, Ph.D.

In March 2010, Peter Gillies joined Rutgers as a professor in the Department of Nutritional Sciences and as the founding director of the New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health. Peter holds a Ph.D. in Medical Sciences and has long-standing research interests in the areas of lipid and lipoprotein metabolism, cardio-inflammatory disease, molecular nutrition, and nutritional genomics. He is an elected Fellow of the American Heart Association, the Society of Toxicology, and a member of the American Society of Nutrition and the National Lipid Association. Prior to coming to Rutgers, Peter had a distinguished career at DuPont working in the areas of cardiovascular drug discovery, agricultural biotechnology, consumer health, functional foods, and dietary supplements. While at DuPont, Peter held adjunct professorships at Penn State and the University of Toronto where he supervised Ph.D. students and postdoctoral fellows. Peter's broad-based expertise and professional networks uniquely position him to build one of Rutgers newest institutes.

Roger Grillo is the Associate Director for the New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health. Roger holds a B.A. in Economics from Rutgers Univiersity and an M.B.A. from Fairleigh Dickinson University. Serving as the chief non-academic officer for the institute, Roger provides vision, leadership and strategic planning for the institute. An experienced and proven research administrator, Roger administers the day-to-day operations of the institute with primary emphasis on facilities management, fiscal planning, budget management, and human resource administration.

Judy Hecht is the Executive Administrator for the New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health. She holds a B.S. in Speech Communication from New York University. Judy provides management and support to the leadership team of the institute and oversees the administration of programs, projects, and communications essential to the day-to-day functioning of the institute, its constituents and stakeholders.

Anita Brinker works closely with Drs. Joseph L. Dixon (Nutritional Sciences) and Thomas G. Hartman (CAFT) in developing the strategic initiative for the university-wide Nutritional Metabolomics Research Core Facility. Her responsibilities include supporting the lipid research community here at Rutgers. She helps to enhance the lipidomics platform at the university and develop new methodologies for the analysis of biological systems using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry.
Anita comes to us with extensive experience in the analysis of natural products, specifically lipids. She has a Ph.D. in Plant Biology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign.
